Hello Everyone,
So, this card doesn't highlight the techniques from day eleven exactly (I did use masking) - but, it does combine some techniques in a fun way. I just can't get enough of plaid stamping (as is evidenced by my recent posts) and am having so much fun with it. So, Combined that with inlaid die-cutting and then added a twist.
First I created my plaid panel using the technique that Laura B showed early in class. I decided to make it a solid plaid with no white space. I then die cut the "Hello" from it. I really loved the way the plaid hello looked and set it aside. I cut a second senitment from white cardstock to inlay in the plaid panel. It looked nice - crisp white juxtaposed with the bold plaid. Then I had a thought - what if I off-set the plaid Hello to create a shadow effect and did plaid on plaid. Icut a few more sentiments from white cardstock to layer and give some dimension and then adhered the palid die cut onto them - I just off set it a little. I am thrilled with the way it turned out. It was hard to photograph, but it looks really cool in real life.
I must say that I just love these online card classes. I love the inspiration, the learning, and the exposure to other blogs and stampers.

Muse, Simon Says Glitter, and Little Tangles
Hello Everyone,
I have been so busy posting for the CAS3 Online Card Class that I fell behind on challenges last week. So, I did not want to miss them this week. When I saw Marion's great Muse card, I immediately fell in love with it. The ideas have been percolating all week. I knew that I wanted to use the rainbow colours and the bold black "Hello". I dreamt this card the other night and finally got into my craft room this morning. In the meantime I saw that the challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is "Glitter It" and that at Little Tangles it was to create a card and envelope. So, I am entering this card into all three. I used some of the techniques I learned in the online card class too (inlaid die-cuts).
So, to create this card I stamped the hello "brick" background with Neat and Tangled's "On the Strip" using a rainbow of Hero Arts Shadow inks. Then I die cut the Simon Says "hello" from the panel. I die cut four more Hellos (3 in white and 1 in black) and inlaid them. This way I get a seamless layered look. Lastly to add a bit of glitter, I added a layer of clear Wink of Stella to my sentiment. I must admit that I love my Wink of Stella clear pen the best - which means I go through them way to quickly!
For the envelope, I used my We R Memory Keepers Envelop Punch to make a standard size envie - I custom made it because I felt the weight of a regular envelope might not stand up to all the ink. I masked off a rectangle in the center for the address and used N & T's " On the Strip" again. I think this would make a geat card set to give away!
I am thrilled with the way the card turned out. Thanks for stopping by - I love to hear your feedback.
Happy Stamping,
Meg

CAS 3 Day 8: More Copic Blending
Hello Everyone,
Today at CAS 3 we are learning more creative colouring techniques. Donna Mikasa showed a really simple copic colouring technique to create these beautiful rose-like flowers. Essentially, you colour a circle in a light colour of copic, then layer darker shades here and there to create the flower. Draw some leaves and presto - you are done! I pretty much copied Donna's card and I loved creating it - it was so quick and easy. I am definitely going to use this technique a lot and play around with colour combos! Thanks for stopping by; would love to hear what you think.

CAS 3 Day 7: Watercolouring
Hello Everyone,
Yesterday over in my online card class, Jen Rzasa demonstrated a very simple water colured feather that she hand drew - well, as I watched her video tutorial in admiration, panic set in because I am more than a little afraid of watercolouring. Lucky for me, I don't have a set of watercolour paints, so I felt I could "cheat" a bit. I stamped these beautiful poppies from a Penny Black set in waterproof ink and then coloured them with my inktense pencils. Add water and you have my kind of watercolouring. I like the way it turned out. I will admit, that while I very much admire watercoloured cards, I always feel like my colours end up looking too washed out and I like bright bold colours better. Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think.

CAS 3 Day 7: More Coloured Vellum
Hello Everyone,
One more post for today - this is also a bit of a cheat, as this is a repost of a card I did a while ago that uses a copic on vellum technique; I do think that it is one that you will find interesting. Essentially, I coloured the strips of vellum with single colours and then layered them on the card - where they overlap you do get a kind of blended colour. Very simple, but effective and of course this can be matched with any sentiment - just change up the colours!

CAS 3 Day 7: Blended Copics on Vellum
Hello Everyone,
I am happy to be able to post. It was my first day back at school after our March Break - I teach grade 7 and the kids were very excited to be back together and share their March Break Adventures. I am tired, but am going to try to keep up with the "homework" for these online classes. With this card i am cheating a bit... It uses the technique that Kristina Werner demonstrated - blending copics on vellum. I must confess that it is actually a card that I made a while ago. I love the look of copics on vellum and love using non-traditional copic blending - blending colours that are not necessarily in the same colour family. I think the card is pretty self-explanatory. I used R27, RV17, YR04, Y15, BG01 to create the sunset and water. The "sand" is bronze glitter paper and the flip flops are cut with a Memory Box border die.
Thanks for stopping by. As always I love to hear your feedback.

CAS 3: Day 6 Hello, My name is Meg and I'm a Plaidict...
Hello Everyone,
I am in serious trouble - I have become so addicted to Laura Bassen's plaid stamping that I am dreaming in plaid. I have used almost my whole role of post-it tape! I just can't get enough. So, today I was about to hang up the stamps for the day, when I saw Virginia Lu's gorgeous take on Laura Bassen's technique. I love the white space juxtaposed with her scalloped stripes. I needed no other prompt to pick up my post-it tape, ink blemding tool and distress inks. I wasn't sure how Virginia did her scalloped stripes, so I stuck with creating a plaid. I wanted a more monochromatic look, so stuck with the warm side of the colour wheel. I used All Occasions Sentiments from Uniko Studio - if you haven't checked them out, do - their stamps are absolutely top notch quality. I stuck to Virginia's layout pretty religiously. When it was all done, I realised the plaid is a little out of balance - I need a little more white space in the bottom left - Oh well, I will just have to make another one :) Yup, I am totally addicted. Thanks for stopping by - I look forward to your feedback!

CAS 3: Day6 Graffiti Stamping
Hello Everyone,
I loved the card that Shari Carroll made to demo Graffiti Stamping. When I sat to try it, I got quite stymied. I just couldn't come up with anything. I think I got too stuck on trying to recreate Shari's card and just couldn't find a word die that I wanted to use and I also realized that this is way outside my typical style of stamping. When I saw today's cards, I loved the sample of Graffiti stamping shown - immediately ideas started flowing. Funny how that works... Anyway, I took out a bunch of stamps (I don't think I have ever used soooo many stamp sets on one card) and set to work. I used a tip from Jennifer McGuire and created a template for myself to work out the layout. I am pleased with the way the card turned out. It really is outside the box for me style-wise, but that is what I love about these classes - you get to try techniques on to see what fits! Thanks for stopping by and as always, I love to hear your feedback!

CAS 3: Day 6
Hello Everyone,
I loved all the techniques that were shared with us yesterday. This post I am going to focus on the Iron-off embossing. I loved the cards that Jennifer McGuire demo'd for us and followed her example to a "t". Everything went off without a hitch, but when I looked at my finished card, I just felt it looked unfinished. So, I put it aside and moved on to the plaid stamping. Sometimes, I find I have to put a card aside for awhile and then look at it with fresh eyes. As I was blog-hopping last night, I came across this card by Jean Manis. I loved the way she "cheated". I was so inspired I did a bit of card surgery and changed my original card to this one.
I cut the sentiment panel out of the original card and mounted it onto a white cardbase and then added a bit of black to create some dimension. I definitely like it better, but I was still not totally satisified with it. So, I decided to do a second one. I chose slightly bolder colours - I realize I am a bright colour gal. I also did a different watercolour technique. I smooshed my distress ink pads (picked raspberry, ripe persimmon, and mustard seed) directly onto the craft mat. Then I spritzed liberally with water. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine black onyx and clear embossed. Then I pressed the panel into my ink mix. I love the way it turned out. I ironed off the embossing. I stamped a simple background over the card base in soft granite shadow ink and then mounted the sentiment panel as pictured. I love the boldness of this card.
So, lesson learned - don't be afraid to take the techniques and make them your own. Now, I will try tackling the graffiti stamping!

CAS 3: Day 5 More Plaid Stamping
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to add one more card - another plaid stamping. This time I masked off the sentiment area while I sponged on the plaid. When it was all done, I unmasked the sentiment area and stamped the sentiment in Versafin black onyx. Love the shock of white next to the plaid. In the top right hand corner a little piece of cardstock peeled up when I took off one of the post it strips - I was almost done. Amazing how such a small thing is so disheartening. I tried to glue the piece back so that I could at least photgraph it. Anyway that's it for me today!
